Turning 30
Tomorrow I'm going to be 30. No big deal. Millions of people turn 30 daily. But its not also everyday that I cease being a member of the twentysomethings. For today's teenagers, I'll now belong to the "uncool" group of oldies, damatans, and ranggus.
Twenty years ago, whenever I encountered people in their 30's I would think that they were ancient. Back then, I lived for the moment and the future was just a rosy blur. Alas, time is the eternal thief, robbing us of our youth and such shortlived notions that old age can never catch up to those who are young at heart.
Now that I'm going to be 30, being told that I still look young will start being accompanied by a skeptical frown. When before I blindly accepted the fact that people are surprised when I tell them I'm in my late twenties, now I'll have to carefully examine whether that same statement is a jest or a compliment. See, turning 30 should not be a big deal, but it is for me.
So, what have I got now that I'm going to be three decades old? Well, sad to say I haven't shaken anybody's world, nor have I toured any maps. All my life I have lived close to home and I'll probably die on familiar shores as well. I don't have any grand dreams which I plan to achieve being a person who simply accepts what life throws my way. Sounds boring, pessimistic and passive doesn't it? Good thing, this is a reflection of my present mood, so tomorrow I could be the most chipper creature who ever walked on two legs.
Because who says I have to travel the world, become somebody famous and shake things up before I'm 30? I'm perfectly happy with the way life has ran its course for me. Some nasty bumps here and there, a lot of great moments and best of all, I have love in my life and I am loved in return. Couldn't ask for anything better than that I suppose.
So, I dare you, wrinkles, white hair, , growing kids and all other bruhaha people in their 30's start to contend with. Come and get me. I'm ready. I'm going to be 30 and I'll still love ME.
